About the Author

I was born in Camden, New Jersey, and lived in the Oaklyn and Cherry Hill area until the middle of sixth grade.  My family moved to Springfield, Illinois, where I lived through the end of high school.  At Northwestern University I studied English literature, and after graduating, I went on to get a Masters degree in elementary education at National Louis University.  I taught in the public schools north of Chicago for seven years—fourth grade, eighth grade English, and high school English—and then I moved with my wife and son to New York where I eventually began working in the publishing business.

My first picture book was published in 1985 when I was working for a company called Picture Book Studio, and Frindle was published eleven years later in 1996.
